Introduction
Ktown Team's Board operates within the organization's flat hierarchy, collaborating as equals with representatives, members, advisors, staff, interns, directors, volunteers, co-founders, and the Alliance Council.
Composition and Selection
Board members are selected through a transparent process that includes community nominations and evaluations based on tangible contributions to Koreatown - community impact over traditional credentials.
Purpose
- Guiding the Mission: Collaboratively lead and update the organization's mission, vision, and strategic direction.
- Ethical Stewardship: Uphold legal, ethical, and organizational standards.
- Facilitating Success: Support the organization's work and foster collaboration among all groups.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Develop and review long-term plans, ensuring alignment with community needs.
- Monitor financial health and approve annual budgets with input from other groups.
- Serve as ambassadors, leveraging personal networks for support.
- Provide mentorship and resources to support team growth.
- Engage in inclusive decision-making, considering input from all groups.
- Foster accountability through performance assessments and transparent reporting.
Terms and Participation
- Renewable one-year terms, maximum four consecutive.
- Staggered terms to balance continuity with fresh perspectives.
- Six to eighteen month cool-off period after four consecutive terms.
- Emeritus status available for long-serving members (advisory capacity).
Ktown Team operates a "life first" policy - Board members participate at varying levels based on their current circumstances. Constant availability is not expected.
Collaboration
- Monthly town halls with direct community engagement.
- Quarterly strategy sessions with representatives from all groups.
- Ad-hoc task forces for specific initiatives, combining Board members with other stakeholders.
Conflict Management
Board members disclose potential conflicts of interest and recuse themselves when necessary. Conflicts between groups are resolved through mediated discussions and, when needed, community input.
Diversity
The Board actively maintains diversity reflecting Koreatown's demographics through targeted outreach, regular composition reviews, and inclusion training.
Knowledge Transfer
A mentorship program pairs outgoing members with incoming ones. The Board undergoes annual self-evaluations and community feedback surveys, with results shared publicly.
