Introduction
The Community Co-creation Initiative is a shift from traditional top-down decision-making to a model where residents drive community development. By providing tools, resources, and platforms for community members to propose, refine, and implement their own initiatives, we aim to unlock the potential of Koreatown's diversity and creativity.
Objectives
- Support residents to actively participate in shaping their community
- Cultivate an ecosystem of community-led innovation and development
- Build a sense of ownership, pride, and shared responsibility among residents
- Establish Koreatown as a model for participatory, equitable urban development
Background and Rationale
Traditional community development often fails to capture the insights, needs, and aspirations of residents - particularly those from marginalized communities. This disconnect leads to initiatives that, despite good intentions, fail to create meaningful, sustainable change.
Ktown Team believes the people who know best what Koreatown needs are the people of Koreatown. Our community is rich in diversity, skills, and ideas. What's been missing are the channels for drawing on this potential - the bridges between ideas and action, and the structures to ensure all voices are heard and valued.

All Koreatown residents, with dedicated focus on groups traditionally underrepresented in community decision-making:
- Immigrant communities
- Youth and seniors
- Low-income households
- People with disabilities
- Non-English speakers
- LGBTQ+ individuals
- People of color
