Community-Controlled Finance
The Ktown Fund is Ktown Team's model for financial management: community-controlled, transparent, and oriented toward lasting impact in Koreatown. Every contribution - financial, time, or skills - is tracked and allocated based on community input and organizational need.
Resource Management
We track and allocate funds using dedicated financial management tools, conduct regular audits to identify inefficiencies, and align spending with the initiatives that deliver the most community benefit.
Diversified Funding
Rather than depending on a single source, we build income through multiple streams:
- Community contributions: small recurring donations that build collective ownership
- Grants: collaborative applications with partner organizations to access larger pools
- Social enterprises: community-owned revenue streams that provide services while generating income
- Skills-based volunteering: professional expertise from community members reduces the need for paid external services
Technology for Transparency
We use data analytics to monitor financial health and make data-driven decisions. Routine tasks are automated where possible, redirecting staff time toward direct community work. Our platform enables real-time financial tracking and community input on resource allocation. We also evaluate emerging technologies - including AI and blockchain - for their potential to improve transparency and impact measurement.
Community Decision-Making
Community members are active participants in financial decisions, not just beneficiaries. This includes input on funding priorities, review of major allocations, and ongoing feedback on outcomes. A flat hierarchy distributes financial governance broadly rather than concentrating it at the top.
Transparency and Accountability
We publish regular financial reports in plain language. Internal controls and governance mechanisms ensure responsible management, and we submit to independent external audits to validate financial integrity. Community members can raise questions or flag concerns at any time.
Ethical Practices
Suppliers and partners are vetted for fair labor practices and alignment with our values. Spending and investment decisions reflect community priorities. We prioritize hiring from within Koreatown to keep resources circulating locally and build a workforce directly connected to community needs.
Adaptive Planning
Rather than static long-term plans, we use adaptive approaches that respond quickly to changing community needs. Success is measured by tangible impact on Koreatown residents - not overhead ratios or conventional nonprofit benchmarks.
